The 5th installment of the annual Cultural Corridor exhibition opens on Saturday, June 5th at the Storefront Artist Project.
On view from June 5th – 27th will be art works by: Jessica Hess, Michael Oatman, Holly Lynton, Joshua Field, Jennifer Reeves, David Ricci and Lisa Desrosiers.
The exhibition was co-curated by Susan Cross (Curator, MassMoca) and Peter Dudek (Program Coordinator, Bascom Lodge).
In 2006 Peter Dudek (then Director of the Storefront Artist Project) branded the area between Beacon, NY and Bennington, VT the “Cultural Corridor”, with Berkshire County being its gravitational center.
This Corridor is home to a large and diverse artist population along with an abundance of prominent cultural institutions. Each year the Storefront Artist Project hosts “Selections from the Cultural Corridor”, a sampling of artists who work, live and otherwise have connections to the area.

Julio Granda’s Poetry Broadsides & Recent Work

Saturday, March 27-Sunday, April 25

Opening Reception: April 10, 5-7 p.m.

In celebration of National Poetry Month in April, the Storefront Artist Project will exhibit local artist Julio’s Granda’s poetry broadsides.

Granda creates the artwork – through illustration, typography and calligraphy – that accompanies the poetry of such writers as Herman Meville, Meville’s great grandson Paul Metcalf, Grace Paley and Federico Lorca. In addition, the Storefront Artist Project will display Granda’s more recent work – landscape oil paintings that are very textured and thickly layered using an impressionistic color palatte.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Long-time artist Julio Granda has continuously reinvented himself by exploring different materials over the course of his artistry. From painting to printmaking to sculpture to acrylics to calligraphy, Granda has demonstrated his diverse talent. This is the second time Granda has exhibited work at the Storefront Artist Project. In 2007, the Storefront, in collaboration with the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, has displayed Granda’s work from 1980-1990.
